On January 24, 2017, Cindy Diane Chipman-Gibson lost the love of her life, Joe Gibson. They were married on October 15, 1989 in Artesia, NM. she was by his side for 27 years until his death at their home.
Joe was born June 15, 1946 in Portales, NM to Willie and Evelyn Gibson. He was active duty in the US Army until August 10, 1967 serving in Vietnam. He was a Purple Heart recipient. When he left active duty he served in the National Guard and then the Reserves, retiring in 2003. Joe worked at NRCS until his retirement in January of 2008. He made many friends though out his years of service in the military and NRCS. He was a wonderful, loving, and caring man.
Joe was a lifetime member of the VFW 3280 and enjoyed playing the machines and visiting with friends. He was also a member of the F.O.E. and the DAV.
Survivors include: his wife; Cindy Diane Chipman-Gibson of the home, two sons; Joe Gibson of Gilbert, AZ, and Jason Gibson; two step-sons; Mike (Chrissy) Otley of Artesia, NM, and James (Lettie) Truex of Amarillo, TX, two sisters; Josie Wells and Janifer (Tommy) Long of Guymon, OK, brother; Frank Gibson of Portales, NM, and numerous beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; Willie and Evelyn Gibson, and three brothers; Bill Gibson, Charlie Gibson, and Richard Gibson.
A "Celebration of Life" gathering will be held at 5:00 pm Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the VFW 3280. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the VFW 3280.
