Miriam F. Gamm, 93, of Arlington, Iowa entered eternal rest with her family at her bedside on Tuesday evening, November 15, 2016 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington and after 9:30 A.M. Saturday at the church.
Interment: Union Cemetery (Putnam Township) rural Aurora, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed in her name to the Fayette County Food Shelf or St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington.

Miriam Francel Buckman was born December 25, 1922 southwest of Hazleton, Iowa, the daughter of Harvie and Eunice (Basham) Buckman. She attended country schools, three years at Hazleton High School and graduated from Aurora High School in 1940. Miriam worked at White Pines Country Club in Bensenville, Illinois and then graduated from Gates Business College in 1942. She was employed at the Waterloo Daily Courier until she married Irwin Arthur Gamm on May 27, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington. Irwin and Miriam farmed in rural Arlington and Aurora, where they also raised their family of eight children. In 1972, they moved into Arlington. She was employed at Starmont School for 12 years as an aide and secretary, retiring at 65. Miriam was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was active in women’s groups, quilting and committees. She was also a member of the Garden Study Club and Library Reading Club for several years. After retirement, she did volunteer work with the community club, library and church. Miriam loved gardening, reading and enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.

Ralph (Diana) Gamm of Quasqueton,
David (Kim) Gamm of Aurora,
Daryl (Ruth) Gamm of Arlington,
Lee (Julia) Gamm of Arlington,
Barbara Passick of Aurora and
Sheryl (David) Layher of Cedar Rapids;
29 great grandchildren;
15 great-great grandchildren;
1 brother: Dale Buckman of Aurora;
and many nieces; nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1983; 3 brothers: Darrell at infancy and Robert and John; 3 sisters-in-law: Kay Buckman, Jan Buckman and Irene Landis; 1 brother-in-law: Charles Landis; and 1 great-great grandson: Remington DeHart.
