Ellen M. “Gypsy” Szekely, 77 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege, Nebraska.
Ellen was born March15, 1939 at Atlasburg, Pennsylvania, the eldest of four daughters born to Alexander and Kathryn (Brower) Goleski. She received her education at Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, graduating from Union High School with the class of 1957.
She was united in marriage to Robert Perry in 1957 and to this union two children were born: Robert Mark and Susan. The majority of Ellen’s life was spent in Pennsylvania, where she employed as a waitress for over 25 years. Most of her friends knew her by her nickname, Gypsy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert. On October 29, 1965 she was united in marriage to George Szekely at Glassport, Pennsylvania and to this union three children were born: Michael, Richard and Sherry. Later in years, this marriage ended in divorce. Ellen continued to reside in West Homestead, Pennsylvania until October 21, 2003 when she relocated to Bertrand, Nebraska to be near her son and his family. While living in Nebraska, Ellen worked as a cook for several years at Casey’s and Sun Mart Foods in Holdrege, until her complete retirement.
In her earlier years, Ellen enjoyed spending her free time creating artwork. She always looked forward to her favorite TV programs and was truly an exercise enthusiast most of her life.
Besides her first husband, Robert and her parents; Ellen was preceded in death by her son, Robert Mark Perry in 1982; brother-in-law, Don Rash and a son-in-law, John Casey.
She is survived by her four children: Susan Casey of West Virginia, Michael Szekely and his wife, Michelle of Loomis, Nebraska, Richard Szekely and his wife, Tammy of Kannapolis, North Carolina, and Sherry Szekely of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren: Jason Daugherty, Jhonna Schupp, and Brian and Heather Szekely; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Sandra Stone and her husband, Ron of Washington, Pennsylvania, Kathy Rash of Langeloth, Pennsylvania and Linda Hester of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring her wish for cremation and a private family service will be held.
A memorial has been established in Ellen’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
